Social Media Engagement and Advocacy
Alan Rosenblatt, Associate Director for Online Advocacy at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, sat down with eMandP to discuss the future of advocacy in the digital age.
Dr. Rosenblatt is a leader in the field, highlighting how new strategies in social media can compliment longstanding political engagement strategies. What if President Obama asked citizens to not only call their member of congress but also to tweet them?
Recently Dr. Rosenblatt has been trying to get politicians to use all dimensions of the internet. He suggests that politicians should not just send blast emails or post to Facebook and Twitter but to also then get involved in the on-going dialogue.
While Dr. Rosenblatt sees the social media being used during campaigns, he discusses his disappointment in politicians not using the tools to foster advocacy or dialogue.
