The White House Online Rapid Response

This week, The White House announced that Jesse Lee would become the Director of Progressive Media & Online Response.  Lee, who has been the lead blogger on Whitehouse.gov since 2009, will coordinate The White House’s online rapid response.

The White House has attempted online rapid response before.  For instance, in 2009 they launchedReality Check in order to counteract some of the rumors about The Affordable Care Act.

The new position signals that The White House is already preparing an online campaign infrastructure for the 2012 election.  While similar online rapid response teams are in place at the DNC and the re-election campaign, Lee’s position might signal that The White House intends to be more involved in the online campaign than in previous elections.
